And relax...

As I'm writing, I'm just in the middle of tying up a few loose ends before closing for the Christmas holidays. There's a couple of emails to be sent, one last Christmas order waiting to be collected and a few last minute things to do before we shut up shop for a well-deserved and long overdue break!

It's been a fantastic year; we've got a new studio (it's a pleasure getting up in the morning to go to work!) we've done more weddings than ever this year, worked with some amazing other businesses on superb design projects, and our stall at St George's Market is getting busier every week and our international orders are coming from more and more countries all the time! We've got a new member of the team helping make our paper goodies, we've got more stockists than ever and we're planning lots of new and exciting things for the new year to come!

But for now, it's time to finish up, close the diary, put the phone to voicemail, turn off the computer and relax. Relax and watch movies, mull some wine, catch up with friends, take time out to come back with our creative batteries fully recharged for another year of wonderful making, designing, creating, crafting & loving every minute of what we do.

So, from me & the rest of the arbee cards team wish you a very Happy Christmas and the best year yet for 2014 - here's to a great one for all of us!

Frock Around the Birthday Clock!

Anyone who follows me on twitter, facebook, instagram or here on the blog knows how much I love taking part in the Frock Around the Clock vintage fairs in Belfast. Love love love them!

The exhibitors are always so interesting with stalls full of awesome vintage treasures & superb finds, or the most beautifully-made handcrafted items. It's always a favourite fair to either be part of or to visit and enjoy not having to stay behind the stall and miss out on the amazing shopping!

Over the past few months, Frock Around The Clock have been on a break, but they're back this Sunday in style for a wonderful 5th Birthday celebration fair. The venue is the gorgeous Georgian mansion, Malone House in Barnett Demesne, Belfast.

Frock Around The Clock 5th Birthday Celebration,
Sunday 3rd November 2013, Malone House, Belfast,  12-5pm

Check out the Exhibitor list here!

I'm very excited to be taking part in the fair, and will be launching this year's vintage-inspired Christmas cards & tags at the fair. The stall will also have lots of gorgeous stocking fillers, stationery, cards, prints & a few other bits & pieces all inspired by vintage loveliness - and not just for the girls!

You can find full details of the fair by visting the FATC website - click here

Hope to see you there!

To book or not to book!

Alongside our collection of wedding stationery, I've been a regular Saturday stall holder at St George's Market, Belfast, for over 3 years now,  selling greeting cards, notebooks, art prints, notelets and other stationery goodies.

The market is great fun and the stall gets very busy at times, and over the past year, it's also become very busy with couples calling by about their wedding stationery.

Our little heart chalkboard on the stall

It's a great place to chat with brides & grooms to be, to show them the portfolio and see the range and style of our other non-wedding designs (wedding inspiration is everywhere!) and to take time discussing their custom stationery.

Last Saturday I was fully booked with couples who had previously arranged to call by the stall about their wedding stationery - but then I had a lot of other couples drop by to see if they could view the samples too! Unfortunately this meant that there wasn't any way I could fit anyone else in and they would have to either book another time or call in another day at the market. One poor bride had travelled quite a distance to see me, and I was probably more disappointed that I didn't get to speak to her properly than she was! I really hate letting people down which is why I had to write a blog post about it.

I always prefer to take bookings for appointments as it means that I can try to avoid disappointing anyone who calls by. Of course it's always fine to drop by at the market any time that suits - but I always have to give priority to anyone who has booked an appointment. I get a lot of brides & grooms travelling miles to visit the stall and they often book weeks in advance.

You can book an appointment for Saturdays at St George's Market, Belfast, or a week day or evening appointment by calling or emailing us. Click here for our contact details! or visit www.arbeecards.co.uk

Care to share?

I've just launched a brand new on the blog here - our new online guest book!

We get such lovely comments & emails from our customers - not just from bridal customers, and we have a gorgeous and very treasured collection of thank you cards. But it's always great for others to hear their experience of ordering from us. Nothing like word of mouth!

If you've ordered from us, whether you've been a bridal customer, visited our stall at St George's Market or a vintage fair, or whether you've ordered something from our Etsy or Folksy shops, please leave a comment!

Think we can improve somewhere or offer something new? Please share your thoughts too. Visit the Guest Book page here on the blog - click on the page tab above or click here

Thanks,

A work in progress

Its been all change at arbee HQ over the past month! I've been spending the last four weeks building my new studio, and it's getting there slowly.

It's been great fun, though because wedding season is still very much in full swing and keeping me busy, the studio will be more like a work in progress over the next few months, rather than all finished straight away. But the main thing is that it's a wonderful new space to settle into, to work in and be creative in. And be organised in! Never been so organised before!

It's lovely to have little refurbishment projects on the go too and I very happily spent my Friday night tonight painting a new bookcase for the studio.

I look forward to finally clearing the last of the unpacked boxes away and watching the new space evolve and inspire lots of new designs and creativity to come. I'm even planning a 'Stitch & Bitch' get together with some creative friends soon too. Watch this space for pics when it happens ;)

Notebook novice

II'm a huge stationery geek - surprise surprise! Like most stationery fans, there's something about notebooks & journals I can't resist - I can't tell you how many beautiful notebooks I own that have never been used. And I know I'm not alone!

I'm hoping to start creating my own range of notebooks, diaries & journals soon, but in the meantime, I've been playing around with those gorgeous soft cover Moleskine journals.

What do you think?

All available from my Etsy store: www.arbeecards.etsy.com
I'm trying not to keep too many for myself, but it's a hard habit to break... ;)

Photography by Brideen

When it comes to planning your wedding, word of mouth is always a great way to go when choosing your suppliers. If you're looking for a wedding photographer, I can 100% heartily recommend 'Photography by Brideen' from both professional & personal experience.

Brideen is the photographer behind most of our wedding stationery photography (the less stylish shots are my own!) and I've also enjoyed a family portrait session by Brideen & her partner Deci. Believe me, that's a huge compliment when I say I enjoyed having my photo taken!

I asked Brideen to tell me a bit more about her work...

How long have you been working in wedding photography?
"Since 2010 - I had been studying photography as a hobby, then I was asked to photograph a friend's wedding (in Paris!) I didn't set out to start a business, I studied Management and Spanish at Queen's University, Belfast, and didn't have any idea of what job I wanted afterwards. I just knew I didn't want a job I wasn't passionate about. Being self-employed I now work every hour possible, but I'm happy to be doing something I love.

What do you offer couples getting married?
We offer full day photography coverage & beautiful photo albums. Deci & I try to make it as stress-free as possible. Most people say they don't enjoy getting their photograph taken but we have a relaxed approach and document the day - we try to make it fun.

I love offering couples a wedding album, I really enjoy designing the albums and giving couples something that will last for years. It's a completely different experience browsing through a beautiful book with printed photographs rather than looking at photos online. It's one thing I would advise couples to budget for.

What is your favourite thing about your work?
I love that with photography, you're always learning. It's great meeting couples who put their own stamp on their wedding day. It doesn't have to be every wedding DIY project they've ever seen online, but something simple.  For example, one of our recent weddings, the bride's father was a baker, so he, along with the bride's sister, made all of the cakes & buns for their dessert table.

Another bride had an afternoon reception at the house where she and her family spent all their summers together by the sea. I love hearing wee stories from brides & grooms, and seeing family/friends in the best spirits on the wedding day.

Copyright Photography by Brideen

I love giving couples all the snapshots of their day - it really goes by so quickly and it's difficult to take everything in so when they look at the photos, they can relive parts of the day. It's all about getting involved in each couple's story, and many of them continue to be good friends with us long after.

I love my job - I hope this shows in my work. Weddings are charged with emotion that it makes each and every one unique, and we try to capture this.

When I look at all those natural, candid photos of my childhood, it makes me so happy - I want my wedding photography to be like this. To picture people as they really are."

Vintage Fair in a Castle?

Yes!  This Sunday 7th April, arbee cards will be taking part in the Frock Around The Clock Vintage Fair at the beautiful Belfast Castle - and I'm excited!

The Fair is the from the organisers of the Vintage Bridal Fairs that I love so much, and I haven't taken part in the regular (non-bridal) Vintage Fairs for ages so I can't wait!

There are so many of my favourite designer-makers & vintage sellers going to be there too, so I hope to get a chance to do a bit of vintage shopping myself. Just check out the exhibitor list!

I'll have lots of new products with me, including new notebook designs, stationery designs & other vintage-inspired treasures so make sure you drop by the arbee cards' stand - I'll be upstairs in the Lyndon Room of the Castle.

Frock Around The Clock Vintage Fair
Sunday 7th April 2013, 12pm - 5pm
Belfast Castle
Admission: Adults £5.00 / Seniors & Students £3.00
Click here to visit the Frock Around The Clock website for directions & full details

The sad bit: the Decadence Vintage Bridal & Frock Around the Clock Vintage Fairs will be taking a break from this summer for at least a year - so this will be our last fair with them for a good while - so don't miss it!

See you there ;)

Countdown to the Vintage Bridal Fair!

It's less than a week until our first bridal event of 2013, and we can't wait because it's the Decadence Vintage Bridal Fair again, this Sunday 3rd March!

I always say this but it's true - it's one of my favourite bridal events as it's full of the loveliest, most beautiful, original and unique vintage businesses & sellers, offering genuinely special services and perfect vintage items for couples tying the knot.

We have so many new designs to show for the first time at a bridal fair, along with lots of stationery designs, samples and ideas and we're really looking forward to chatting to brides and grooms, as well as spending the day at the fair's beautiful venue too!

The Fair is at Belfast's Malone House, Barnett Demesne - a stunning georgian mansion that we've created stationery for many weddings held there. Might be a good chance to check out a prospective venue at the same time!

Hope to see you there!

A little wedding thank you

I'm very excited that the first of our 'ready to go' wedding stationery packs is now available to order online from our Etsy shop!
'Vintage-inspired Postcard' wedding thank you notecards, personalised with the new married couple's name, are now available to order straight from Etsy.

The cards are ready to order in packs of either 25 or 50 cards, but because we're used to being a custom-design stationery company, of course there's the option to order more or less according to requirements, along with changing colours to match the wedding theme if required too!

The back of the notecard also features a 'Post Card' design taken from the back of one of my own antique postcards, dating from around the 1900's. I do love to keep things as authentic as possible and add those little extra touches where possible.
There will be plenty of ready to order wedding packs, including invitations, coming to our Etsy (& Folksy) shops soon. Will keep you updated!

You can find the cards in our Etsy 'Weddings' section or visit arbeecards.etsy.com
